Our Story

A family with a love for each other and a liking for the game of golf.

The Full Story

First up, Gramps.

In my family, golf isn't just something you pick up, it's something you pass on. My brother who goes by 'Rock', my dad, better known as Poppa, and I are all golfers; and the two of them, pretty good ones.  But I think we could all agree that the most important golfer in the family wasn't either of us sons, or Poppa.  The title goes to Gramps!  It's fairly easy to overlook the simple fact that the good things we have obtained in life were often passed on to us by those who came before us. In our case, that's exactly what happened!

Gramps was the original golfer, playing with old woods that had wooden heads and apparently hitting those good old Balata balls my dad pulled out of his golf bag a couple years ago.  Seems like Gramps didn't just pass on the game to us, but also his taste for a good golf ball that had the kind of spin that allows you to control it around the greens.  The Balata balls tells us that Gramps liked to play a ball that he could control with a little extra spin, and that's what our Provision line can give you as well. A ball that is responsive and grabby around the greens. The game started with Gramps and eventually found it's way to my dad many years ago, where the story was just beginning.

Poppa

My great grandpa chose to do something with the things he loved rather then bottle them up and enjoy them for himself. He chose to pass them on.  And so, Poppa was given this old golf bag with his clubs in it; and found himself to be quite the golfer the past 25 years.  Poppa has multiple rounds In the 60's and is the club champion at a local course -Cajun Pines- a hand full of times. In his younger years he was a dangerous player in all aspects of the game. Now-a-days he's not a very long player off the tee, but let me just say... the dude is STRAIGHT down the fairway.  And don't give him a chance to putt for the win against you. I still like to say, no matter how many professional golfers we get a chance to watch in person, Poppa is the best putter I know. His buddies will tell you... they know.  When we were testing our golf balls, I really wanted to know that the ball we put out there was the ball Poppa loved. He's one of the pickiest golfers I know. For Poppa, our provision+ ball is the one. The responsiveness and spin control is perfect for an advanced player like himself.  Thankfully, Poppa didn't keep the game to himself either, but chose to pass it on just like Gramps did because he knows the best things in life are meant to be shared with those you love.

Rock

Rock came to the game late. He didn't take to it much in his younger years, and actually became very successful in other sports and competition platforms. Baseball, body-building and a very successful career as a marketing graduate were all a part of his story early on. But during those early days of grinding towards his eventual career, he found himself managing the golf section of a sports retail store, and so it began.  He starting hitting balls on the launch monitor during down times when the store wasn't very active. And before we knew it, he developed a game of his own.  It wasn't long before his game became a force to be reckoned with.  Now, he beats me... But the story isn't over yet... Rock took a real liking to the game and is now down to a 5 handicap.  Pretty good for a guy working a very serious sales job and playing on off times when he gets a chance to get out there.  Rock's a bomber. He hits the ball a mile and manages to stay pretty straight while doing it. Players with high swing speeds like my brother Rock will do well with our 3 piece provision ball. It will provide the right amount of spin for someone with a little extra behind their swing, without applying spin rates that jump off the page. Despite what you might think since he's a long-baller, Rock's also dangerous with a putter in his hand. But what can we say? That just runs in the family!

Mackay

When I was a kid, Poppa and I would go out to the golf course many Saturdays to compete in a local club tournament. During the week, my mom would drop me off to the course with my clubs and a cell phone, and I'd go walk the course and play. This lead me to my middle school years when I started to compete locally. In the tournaments, if you placed, you were given money to the pro-shops to spend as a reward for the victory.  I had my fair share of earnings to pro-shops through those years.  I wasn't a good golfer because of some extreme athletic ability or because I had some physical edge. I was competitive because my dad taught me from such a young age that I had an advanced understanding of the game already.  Thankfully, Poppa took me along with him on those Saturday mornings for the tournaments with his buddies, when he could have been using that time as his own personal get-away.  He invested in me and taught me the game on a deeper level. I'm sure he spent a great deal of money putting me in those tournaments to compete as well, but that didn't stop him.  I personally went on to play college baseball, and left the golf clubs behind for a while.  In more recent years I've circled back around to the golf course, and fighting against that little white ball again. Now, I have something so much more rewarding to play for. My two year old son who just got is first very own set of golf clubs. He goes out in the back yard to do the same thing that his great, great-grandfather did and passed on to my dad who passed it on to me. It might not be the same exact ball or the same clubs, but it's the same game that we all enjoy, and the same family that loves to invest in each other.
